VETERANS PORTRAIT SERIES
Every few months over that past 3 years or so, before Covid, I’ve had the pleasure of briefly meeting a number of U.S. military veterans in a residential stress rehab center
Creating portraits
Together with 2 - 3 artist pals, we've offered an opportunity for these vets to sit for and to keep a mat-framed portrait of themselves. These are very brief encounters (~ 45 mins.), for each portrait sitting.
I used the quick medium of pastel chalks on fine-sanded archival paper.

In chatting with these folks, we felt that we truly left with so much more in human understanding and empathy, than whatever gift we gave.
The models gave permission for the photographs of and with their portraits, but are un-named here.
